Apple MacBook Pro Winter 2011 Notebook Computer Evaluation
The MacBook Pro was initially unveiled in 2006, replacing the PowerBook G4. These top of the line notebook computers have been continuously improved since their launch.
A few of the new updates introduced design changes but this year is the year of the Apple MacBook Pro Winter 2011 notebook computer and while the look still looks just like last year, Apple made many refinements which are more than welcome especially if you have not upgraded your MacBook Pro for the past several years.
Advantages
The Apple MacBook Pro Winter 2011 laptop joins the Sandy Bridge bandwagon as each of its designs include Intel second generation Core i5 and Core i7 processors. The smaller sized model, the 13-inch, will now be powered by the latest Intel Core i5 2620M, which is very fast. However, the larger styles, at 15″ and 17″, now run on quad-core processors, which can power even the most challenging video and graphics editing applications easily. The actual memory remains the same at 4 GB however that can now expand to 16 GB of RAM. Improvements have been made in the graphics end as well with the two larger styles sporting a fast AMD Radeon HD 6490M for good gaming. For the most demanding users, the Radeon HD 6750M can be put in as an alternative. With the Intel HD Graphics 3000 your battery will still supply long life between charges. The new MacBook Pros virtually scream in each and every speed test.
Another fresh technology has been introduced in the brand new large monitor hook-up or Display Port. With the Apple MacBook Pro Winter 2011 notebook, a fairly new type of technology by Intel called Thunderbolt has been implemented which makes the port much more flexible. Finally transfer speeds, which have improved by up to 1200%, will stop being the bottleneck that has slowed down file transfers to high capacity storage drives. Just one Thunderbolt channel can work with numerous devices when they are connected in a chain.
The 2nd main enhancement is the built-in webcam which is no longer referred to as iSight camera but the FaceTime HD camera which shares its title with the iPhone 4 and iPad 2 cameras. Apple has set 720p as the brand new standard resolution for video phone calls using the FaceTime HD camera.
Disappointments
Along with all of these kinds of upgrades, the battery life had to lessen and the Apple MacBook Pro Winter 2011 notebook still uses the same battery pack as the earlier model. However, with up to 7 hours of energy while the wireless is turned on, it is hard for competing multimedia laptop computers to obtain that battery life. The MacBook Pro 13-inch at the same time will get a small downgrade as it uses the Intel integrated graphics without an AMD or NVIDIA counterpart. Game playing performance is slightly slower though the Intel HD 3000 graphics is so much better than previous generations and also it is just as efficient.
The Verdict
The standards for the high-end notebook category have been considerably increased with the launch of the MacBook Pro Winter 2011 models. Brand new MacBook Pro customers can be assured that they are going to be able to run the most demanding software programs for the foreseeable future.
