Upholstery Steam Cleaner To Eliminate Odors, Molds, and Germs by Lauren Zwiebel
An upholstery steam cleaner is a portable device that uses the power of hot steam to spot clean mattresses, carpets, car seats, and other upholstered surfaces. Essentially a portable steam cleaner, this type of machine is particularly useful in cleaning car interiors. Here are some of the benefits of using an upholstery steam cleaner for cleaning car upholstery:
1. High temperature: A portable steam cleaner may reach temperatures as high as 386F. Heat is a powerful natural cleaning tool. It helps remove food and beverage spills, tobacco ash, wine stains, and other dirt and stains confined to small areas. (Note: for cleaning entire seats and carpets, you would need a carpet cleaner or carpet shampooer, not a vapor steam cleaner.)
2. Low flow: A steam cleaner is inherently a low moisture machine. They use steam vapor with less than 5 percent water content, which reduces water consumption. This is an important factor for car wash businesses that are required to make costly investments for water traps and disposal. Use of dry water vapor for stain removal also leads to shortened drying times.
3. Portability: An upholstery steam cleaner is compact and lightweight. The most basic machines weigh little more than 20 lbs.
4. Vacuum extraction: A commercial upholstery steam cleaner should always be equipped with wet and dry vacuum extraction. This eliminates the need for separate dry vacuum machines and manual scrubbing to remove dirt and stain residues.
5. Germ elimination: Check if your upholstery steam cleaner can remove mold and germs. Reputable suppliers offer machines with sanitizing capabilities, which successfully remove more than 99 percent of germs and bacteria on the surface.
6. Allergen removal: Closed areas such as car interiors receive little ventilation, making them prone to allergens such as pollen, smoke particulates, dust mites, and dander. The best way to eliminate allergens is machines equipped with a HEPA filter.
7. Continuous use: Few commercial brands offer this feature. Ordinary steam vac cleaner systems cannot run for very long periods of time. The operator will need to switch off the machine, refill the boiler, then turn the machine on and wait for the boiler to reach the right temperature and pressure level. This can take as long as 20 minutes or more. If you need to use a steam cleaner nonstop for the entire workday, invest in machines that have a non-pressurized refill chamber. The boiler is refilled via this chamber and you do not have to interrupt operation.
8. Scrubbing tools: Because a steam vac cleaner lacks the pressure level of pressure washers, the operator has to use a detailing brush, steel wool, microfiber towels, or similar scrubbing equipment to dislodge dirt from the surface after application of steam. Soft nylon brushes are ideal for scrubbing upholstery and car seats.
